Custom Home Design Services in Greater Seattle

Serving King County, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Hawaii

Every service we offer is designed around one principle: creating homes that adapt to your lifestyle instead of forcing you to adapt to your home. With 50+ years of experience in residential architecture, I provide the expertise and personal attention your custom home deserves.

Design Process

We’ll start by collecting and analyzing all the information needed for your project. I’ll visit your site, review the layout and neighborhood, and consult with engineers or city officials as needed. We’ll discuss your project thoroughly—whether by phone or face-to-face—to help solidify your ideas. I’ll advise you on Civil, Structural, Landscaping, or other engineering services if needed (these are additional costs, but they’re not part of my basic fee). At this stage you’ll receive a written agreement and fee schedule for your approval.

This is where we explore the type, style, and configuration of your project together. You’ll have opportunities to explore different design possibilities with me. The purpose of this phase is to give you—and me—a clear path to follow in designing your project.

Now the documents begin to take formal shape. The sketches and notes from our schematic design phase become ¼”=1′-0″ scale drawings including all floor plans, roof plans, and elevations. You’ll review these drawings carefully and make any minor revisions. At the end of this phase, you’ll know exactly how your new home will look like.

This is where I complete all required documents for your building department permit application. The drawings include cover sheets, detail sheets, foundation plans, floor plans, framing plans, roof plans, all four elevations, building sections, applicable notes and schedules, Washington State Energy packages, and structural calculations. This is all quite technical – but you won’t have to worry about anything!

While the building department reviews your drawings, I’ll handle any necessary clarifications throughout the permit process. Any adjustments, revisions, or clarifications required by the building department are part of my service to you—I’ll revise, adjust, or clarify the documents and redeliver them at no additional cost.
